Asylum Procedures and residence title
Migrants, refugees or asylum seekers – these terms are used in everyday language and often mixed up. Migrants are generally referred to as people who have temporarily or permanently immigrated to a different country – with different motives.
Countries are by international agreements or EU directives (including the Geneva Refugee Convention – GFK) obliged to receive refugees whose safety and rights in their own country are no longer guaranteed. The right to political asylum is also in the constitution (GG).

Quote from M/s Aydan Ozoguz Minister of State:
Representative of the German Federal Government, Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration
“Due to the global political situation, the numbers of refugees have increased. In the past year we have over 200,000 asylum applications in Germany. We offer protection to those who have experienced war, persecution and immense suffering and have had to flee and search for refuge.”
